FIRE crews tackled a blaze in a field near Bovey Tracey yesterday, Tuesday, August 12.
Four fire engines were sent after a compost heap self-ignited.
Firefighters from Bovey Tracey were first at the scene, with Buckfastleigh Fire Station sending a relief crew to assist.
‘Our crews assisted in saving a tree which the fire had spread to due to a cavity that was decayed and damped down hotspots’, says a spokesperson for Buckfastleigh Fire Station.
‘Water was provided via shuttle runs with our appliance taking water from a near reservoir using a portable pump and then reversing the narrow lane back to the incident ground’, the spokesperson added.
