A LOCAL talking newspaper's Chairman is stepping down from his role after almost 15 years of service.
After 14 years, Brian Smith has stood down as Chairman of Dyrons Journal, the Teignbridge Talking Newspaper (TN) for the visually impaired.
Doug Neely has taken over as Chairman.
Each week, the Journal record stories from the Mid Devon Advertiser, Dawlish Post and Teignmouth Gazette.
Those subscribed to the service, which is free, then receive the recordings on a USB stick: they are also available via Dyrons Journal’s website.
The service, which began in 1977, takes its name from the Dyrons Youth Club, its headquarters before moving to the Courtenay Centre in the not too distant past.
And though standing down as Chairman, Brian will continue as one of their regular readers.
‘I have been involved with Talking Newspapers for 20 years, seven years in Farnham and then 13 years in Teignbridge‘, Brian said.
‘It has been a privilege to work with teams of volunteers who have been as keen as I have to deliver the best possible product for our lovely listeners, who are so grateful for what we can do for them’, Brian added.
