THE Easter weekend saw police in Newton Abbot deal with several incidents involving door-to-door sellers.
Newton Abbot Police say they responded to a number of reports of door-to-door selling, sometimes referred to as ‘Nottingham Knockers’, over the long-weekend.
Those involved had their details taken and were told to leave the area.
A spokesperson for the force said: ‘We would like to thank the community for contacting us - your calls allow us to respond promptly and take appropriate action to safeguard our communities.
‘While some doorstep sellers may claim to be legitimate, residents are reminded to stay vigilant prioritise their safety’.
• Do not feel pressured to open the door to anyone you don't know;
• Always use a door chain before speaking to callers;
• Do not share personal details or show cash at the door;
• Never feel obliged to buy anything;
• Genuine callers will respect a refusal;
• If you have elderly or vulnerable neighbours, please help by making them aware.
‘If you feel threatened or believe a crime is taking place, call 999 immediately.
‘For non-emergency concerns or to report suspicious activity, contact 101’, the spokesperson added.
