CAMPAIGNERS bidding to take over running Teignmouth’s popular seafront Lido have launched a survey.

Teignmouth Lido Community Trust, which was set up following Teignbridge Council’s announcement it was to sell the pool, is preparing a bid to take it on.

As part of that process, organisers are appealing to pool users, supporters and residents to complete the short survey.

The survey asks about 12 questions which range from what facilities people would like to see to what would make people use it more.

Suggestions include classes, swimming lessons, season tickets and special swims such as winter cold water swims and solstice or full moon swims.

The pool officially reopened on Saturday and, with the good weather and half term, has been busy so far.

The opening came after Teignbridge Council reversed its decision to close the pool this season, following a huge public outcry.

The council will now run the Lido as usual for this summer but is seeking bids for an alternative use of the site after the end of this season.

For sale signs have gone up as part of the process of offloading the pool but it is designated an Asset of Community Value which gives community groups a six month period to prepare a bid to buy the site.

Teignmouth Lido Community Trust says it has strong community backing to take over the Lido and protect it in the long term as a community facility.

The trust says it is preparing a ‘robust’ business plan which incorporates an extended season and opening hours and an enhanced programme of community events.

Run as a not for profit charity, the trust has revealed it intends to submit a bid to buy the Lido for a nominal sum.

Bidders have been asked to set out their proposals for the future use of the site.

Teignbridge Council’s ruling Executive will consider all bids received at a meeting in the autumn.
