From the classroom to the stage and then the recording studio - student band Nevik have hit the ground running this summer.
The three-piece neo-punk band from Teignmouth Community School were runners-up in this year’s Devon Battle of the Bands competition, winning the chance to play on the main stage at Sidmouth Seafest.
In a Facebook post after the event, the school said: “Performing in front of a lively festival crowd, Nevik delivered an energetic and confident set that showcased both their musical talent and hard work.
“It was wonderful to see our students representing the school so positively and gaining experience performing at such a well-known festival.
“Opportunities like this are invaluable for developing confidence, creativity, teamwork, and performance skills.
“A huge congratulations to Joe, Arthur and Lewis on this brilliant achievement. We look forward to seeing what comes next for the band!”
Two of the immediate next steps for the band were gigs at the Devon County Show and the Ship Inn in Teignmouth.

As part of their Battle of the Bands prize, Nevik will be releasing a single later this year. It’ll be recorded and mixed by the music production company R&K Studios, based out of The Source studios in Exeter, and part of the Music In Devon Initiative (MIDI), which is one of the key organisers of the Battle of the Bands.
Once the single is recorded MIDI will work with Nevic on a release plan, which includes an electronic press kit to help the band secure reviews, radio play, gigs and media coverage.
Dave Knox from MIDI was at the Seafest gig to watch Nevik play and ‘get a better idea’ of the single he would be working on with them.
He said: “We really enjoy this time of year where we get to meet the bands fresh from the final and see them take their first tentative steps into the industry.”
