As beachgoers bask in the May sunshine, Teignmouth, Shaldon and Dawlish Town Councils are basking in pride at achieving awards for the excellence of their seashores.

The coveted Blue Flag award has been given to Dawlish Warren Beach, recognising excellent water quality, environmental standards, safety and facilities.

Dawlish Town Beach, Coryton Cove, Teignmouth Beach and Ness Cove have all earned Seaside Awards, which also flag up the beaches as clean, safe and well-managed.

Applications for the awards are submitted by Teignbridge District Council, but the town and parish councils funded the applications for ‘their’ beaches. The district council has thanked them for doing so.

A spokesperson for Dawlish Town Council said the awards were ‘fantastic news’.

They said: “The town council was pleased to fund each of the awards, demonstrating our continued commitment to maintaining Dawlish as a top destination for residents and visitors alike.

“With the sunny weather arriving just in time, there has never been a better opportunity to enjoy our beautiful coastline and everything our wonderful seaside parish has to offer.

“Congratulations to everyone involved in helping to keep our beaches clean, safe, and welcoming for all.”

Teignmouth Town Council’s spokesperson said: “Teignmouth Town Council funded the Seaside Award application for Teignmouth Beach and is pleased to see the town recognised alongside other much-loved coastal destinations in Teignbridge.

“Teignmouth Town Council would like to thank everyone involved in helping to care for Teignmouth Beach and seafront, ensuring it remains a welcoming place for residents, visitors and the wider community to enjoy throughout the summer.”
