PATIENTS are being asked for their views on the potential closure of a surgery at Dawlish Warren.
Barton Surgery has launched a questionnaire about closing its Warren branch and permanently moving all services to the main site in Dawlish town centre.
It is understood the Warren surgery closed during Covid and has not reopened since.
The surgery is now asking for feedback on the plans.
It says: ‘We are proposing a change to how we deliver services at Barton Surgery.
‘We are considering closing our branch site at Dawlish Warren and consolidating services at our main site.
‘By consolidating services at the main site, we aim to improve access to a broader range of healthcare services and ensure consistent, high-quality care for all of our patients.
‘We are committed to involving our patients in this decision.’
Any branch surgery closure requires engagement with the relevant NHS commissioners and stakeholders and must follow the appropriate NHS processes.
NHS commissioners would. have the final say on the proposals.
In a statement to patients, a surgery spokesman said: ‘We are reviewing how we provide services to ensure we can continue to offer safe, high-quality and sustainable healthcare for all our patients.
‘Centralising services at our main site would allow us to bring our clinical teams together, improve access to equipment and services and make the best use of our resources.’
If the proposal goes ahead, all GP services currently provided at the branch surgery would be delivered from the main practice site.
Patients would remain registered with the practice and would continue to receive their care from the same GP practice.
Some patients have responded saying it was previously well used and should reopen to support the growing population of Dawlish and Dawlish Warren.
One said: ‘Open it up with more hours and make proper use of it.
‘With the new housing developments it’s mad to close it, redevelop it, we need more surgeries not less.’
The consultation runs until November 17.
