TEIGNMOUTH Delinquents had a fairly easy ride in their South Devon & Torbay Table Tennis singles semi-final as Newton Abbot Owls struggled to come to terms with their handicaps, Andy Clitheroe, David Sanders and Blake Bellham guiding the Delinquents to a 24-12 victory.
In the doubles semi-final it was the Aces from Teignmouth who defeated Torre Vikings in a nail-biting encounter that could’ve gone either way. Mark Sharratt, Steve Cooper and Andy Clitheroe finishing well, coming from behind to win the last two sets 3-1 and take the match 19-17.
Torbay Academy 5 have dominated the cup competitions this season, they progressed to both finals this week with a big win, 25-11, in the singles against NA Falcons and just eased past a battling Brixham Seals in the doubles competition 20-16.
Jamie McGuire and Aleksandra Treder playing in both competitions, Gustaw Adamczak joined them for the singles while Steve Metcalfe played in the doubles. Their opponents in both finals will be from Teignmouth.
An excellent maximum from Grove Guerrillas’ Andrew Gilhespy led them to an 8-2 victory at Halwell which saw the Guerrillas climb two places, up to fourth, in the first division.
In a really close finish to the third division season, Torre Spartans’ 6-4 victory over NA Harriers clinched the title. Rob Austin, who lost just one singles all season to finish top of the averages, secured another maximum as the Spartans inflicted the first defeat of the season on the Harriers.
In a good week for the Teignmouth Delinquents, they secured the runners-up spot in the fourth division with an 8-2 victory over third placed Torbay Academy 6. Andy Clitheroe, who was part of both the Teignmouth teams to reach the cup finals, collected his 9th maximum of the season, Laurie Girling was also undefeated for the Delinquents.
