A fine season for Newton Abbot Table Tennis Club was wrapped up with the annual Junior Clubmark Challenge for the Don Blatchford Cup.

After the group rounds, Lewis Short and Archer Snow headed to the semi-finals unbeaten.

Snow came through his semi-final in a close encounter with Luke Manuell, but Short was beaten in another close match by Richard Salt.

Salt took revenge on Snow, who beat him in the group stages, winning a hard-hitting, exciting contest 11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 10-12, 11-9 to lift the Don Blatchford Cup.

In the Clubmark shield, the final was between the Bayliss brothers – Dylan beating Katie Thain, and Rowan beating George Hilliard in the semis.

Older brother Dylan won the final 11-7, 12-10, 11-6.

l With South Devon and Torbay Table Tennis League season all but finished, Newton Abbot TTC have fared well.

Batmen just missed out on the Division One title, finishing runners-up. Their team of Nick Halse, Dennis and Shaun Gibbs all featured in the top ten of the division’s averages.

NA Buzzards topped Division Two, with Ed Crawford and Mike Dummett finishing first and second in the averages, with their third player, Charlie Usher, not far behind.

NA Hawks just got pipped for the runners-up spot in Division Three, with team captain Mike Coxhead leading the averages.

NA Kestrels beat clubmates NA Kites to the runners-up position in Division Four.

Club sessions, open to all, continue throughout the summer at Teign School, Kingsteignton, on Friday nights 7pm to 10pm, and Saturday mornings 9am to noon.
