REGIONAL TWO SOUTH WEST

Wellington 14 Teignmouth RFC 60

WITH Teignmouth RFC beating Wellington 40-12 at home back in November, Wellington were clearly looking for revenge and they started well, taking a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes.

Teigns hit back courtesy of Pete Parsons and Luke Atkinson added the extra points to level it up.

It went back-and-forth once more, Welly regaining their 7-point buffer only for the visitors to respond, Jai Simmons with the score.

Jack Mayne and Pete Bilham crossed next to give Teignmouth their first lead of the day and a penalty from Atkinson moved the score to 14-29.

There was still time for Jordan Hellier to add a fifth try before the interval.

The second half began with a lot of kicking back and forth in a battle for territory. On the score board, Teignmouth were in control once more with Bilham’s second try of the day, Atkinson converting once more.

Substitute Ryan Knapman was next to get in on the act before converted tries from Mayne and Dayne Layton really put a shine on the afternoon for the Teigns, sealing a comprehensive 14-60 victory on their travels.

For his great work with the boot, Luke Atkinson was named as the man of the match.

It was the first time Teignmouth had broken the 50-point barrier since defeating Wellington 53-25 at Bitton Park in January 2024.

And you have to go back March 2022 and a 50-0 victory over Bideford for a wider winning margin.

George Franklin, the Teignmouth skipper, said pack power paved the way for such a sizeable win.

“Our set piece was excellent and gave us a great platform to dominate the game.,” said Franklin.

“Our maul was a real weapon and led to multiple tries.

“It wasn't a performance without errors, but it was really pleasing to get a much-needed five-point win.”
