SOUTH WEST TWO

Teignmouth RFC 29 Ivybridge RFC 22

TEIGNMOUTH RFC welcomed Ivybridge to Bitton Park on Saturday, December 20 and the home side started with plenty of possession, writes Judi Hellier.

They had points to show for it as well, the ball going across the pitch and 13, Jordan Hellier passing to 14, James Wright for the first try of the game, 5-0.

Ivybridge came back at Teignmouth and were piling on the pressure, only for their hosts to repel them at every moment.

Still up against it, man of the match Harvey Ridgeway intercepted from an Ivybridge scrum to run the length of the pitch and score, Luke Atkinson slotting the conversion.

Dan Haywood struck next before Jack Bowen secured a bonus point before the half-time whistle, both tries being converted by Atkinson for a 26-0 lead.

Picking up where they left off, an Atkinson penalty moved Teignmouth onto 29 points.

Ivybridge weren’t going down without a fight though, responding with their first try of the day and then adding two more, from a lineout and a scrum.

At 29-19, a Teignmouth yellow card increased the tension amongst the supporters and although they were able to hold on with this man disadvantage, another of their players was then sin-binned.

Ivybridge took advantage this time and successfully kicked a penalty but time ran out for them, meaning they had to settle for a losing bonus point.
