A trio of Maverick Runners stormed the podium at Saturday’s Plym Trail Half Marathon, with first, second and third places taken by the club-mates.

Organised by First and Last Running, the event offers both a half and full marathon distance race along the Plym Trail cycle way.

Starting at Clearbrook, in the heart of Dartmoor, the half marathon course took the runners up the hill out of the small village, before returning past the village again and joining route 27 of the National Cycle Network.

Dropping down from the moor, the competitors experienced some six miles of downhill running to the outskirts of Plymouth, before then turning and having to run all the way back up to Clearbrook.

Maverick duo Roy Brown and Daryl Milford led the race from the start, with Brown pulling away and Milford keeping a watching brief in second place. They both held their respective positions, throughout, with Brown gradually putting distance between him and second place Milford, who also did the same to the next place competitor.

Rachel Steele came home third placed lady after a solid race to record her first ever podium finish.

All three are training for a marathon in the spring, with the boys down for the London Marathon and Steele entered in the Manchester Marathon.

Maverick times at the Plym Trail Half: Roy Brown 1.20.00, Daryl Milford 1.24.50, Claire McKenna 1.48.16.
