The weekend saw the 2016 British Cycling National Cyclo-Cross Championships, staged in a muddy Shrewsbury, in Shropshire.

Freddy Birchill, 12, from Lustleigh, competing in his first year of national competition, was up against a large field of 60-plus riders in the U14s’ category, but stormed home to finish second and claim the silver medal.
