IN one of five South West Peninsula League fixtures to go ahead on the weekend, Teignmouth AFC were narrowly beaten away at Torridgeside AFC.
Elsewhere, Bovey Tracey AFC and Newton Abbot Spurs were scheduled to host Crediton United and Bishops Lydeard respectively, only for both games to fall foul of the weather.
On top of that, whilst five games kicked off in the Premier East, only four were completed. Ilfracombe Town were 1-0 up away at Bridport FC when their clash had to be stopped, Riley Malin suffering what has since been confirmed as a double leg break- everyone will be wishing him a speedy recovery.
Back to the Teignmouth clash and Blake Shapland headed home the only goal of the game in favour of the home side.
Liam Jones’ Teignmouth had won the reverse two weeks prior thanks to strikes from Harry Breslan (2) and Zak Khadaroo at Coombe Valley but they were unable to complete the double.
Torridgeside are up to sixth in the division after collecting all three points whilst Teignmouth stay put in 14th.
Meanwhile, there were wins for Middlezoy Rovers, Honiton Town and Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police with this trio all scoring three goals.
Middlezoy were 3-1 victors away at rock-bottom Axminster Town, Honiton beat Okehampton Argyle on home soil by the same scoreline and Stoke edged out Ilminster Town in a five-goal thriller at Broadley Lane.
Teignmouth’s next outing is a fascinating one as they head to Okehampton with revenge on the agenda.
Argyle won this fixture 3-0 back in August and Teignmouth are five points behind them now with three games in hand- it really could go either way.
For Bovey, it’s a league visit to Honiton and Spurs will journey into Cornwall for a WCP League Cup meeting with St Day AFC.
