BOVEY Tracey AFC suffered penalty shootout heartbreak on Tuesday, March 25, and were then tasked with swiftly bouncing back.

The Moorlanders opened the scoring at Okehampton’s Simmons Park courtesy of Jack Brimming only for Callington Town to then hit back in the SW Peninsula League Cup semi-final.

Stuart Bowker saw his penalty saved and to make matters worse, Callington made it 2-1.

Cieran Bridger responded for Bovey, a goal that forced a shootout, Cally narrowly prevailing 6-5 from the spot.

That one piece of silverware might now be beyond them but Ben Gerring’s side are still in pole position when it comes to the league title.

They weren’t able to steamroll Crediton United like they have plenty of sides this season, edging it 2-1 at the Western Counties Roofing Ground.

After a goalless first-half, substitute Levi Landricombe made it 1-0 with his first touch of the game.

Crediton equalised within a matter of minutes but Josh Webber restored the Bovey advantage and they didn’t let the lead slip this time.

Prior to the midweek action, Bovey are a point ahead of Bridport FC having played three less games.

Elsewhere in the division, Newton Abbot Spurs visited Okehampton Argyle on the Friday night and returned home with all three points.

The goals were shared around nicely by Marc Revell’s men; Tate-Breslan Aggrey, Toby Pullman, Chris Harvey and Kai Swann all notching in a 4-1 victory.

Elsewhere, Teignmouth AFC were beaten 2-0 at Coombe Valley by Torrington AFC, making it seven games without a win in all competitions.

There is plenty of football coming up over the Easter weekend, starting with a South Devon derby between Spurs and Teignmouth at The Rec on Good Friday (12 noon).

Bovey visit Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police on the Saturday before Spurs and Teignmouth host Ilfracombe Town and Ilminster Town respectively on Easter Monday.
