BAD behaviour has led to a few young people being excluded from a Teignbridge youth club.
Bovey Tracey Youth Cafe has been forced to take action after a ‘small number’ of youngsters failed to follow the group’s house rules.
The incidents are said to have ‘upset and possibly intimidated’ other young people at the popular cafe.
A spokesman explained: ‘The vast majority of young people behave well during our sessions but there have recently been some issues where a small number of young people behaved badly and were not abiding by our house rules.
‘This behaviour affected other young people and it is likely they were upset and possibly intimidated and this will never be acceptable.
‘On the rare occasions when there are instances of negative behaviour, as a team we act quickly, robustly, and fairly for the good of all young people.
‘It is never acceptable for a small number of young people to ruin the experience for others, and we will never allow this to happen.
‘These issues have been dealt with and the young people in question will not be returning.’
Organisers said they tried their best to be inclusive and welcoming to all young people but they must adhere to the rules and no exceptions will be made.
The spokesman continued: ‘We don’t expect much, but what we do expect is not negotiable and is in place for the happiness and safety of all young people.
‘As I am sure you will agree, young people need realistic, firm, and fair boundaries, they may not always like this, and often push against them.
‘But ultimately this makes them feel safe and secure and helps them grow into responsible, rounded, tolerant, resilient, respectful adults.
‘All young people deserve to feel safe and happy in the Café and the staff and volunteers who work very hard to support young people in the town also deserve respect.’
Open since 2002, the cafe, run as a charity, is a free, drop-in service providing pool, computer games, arts and crafts, playstation, and Karaoke.
