ABOUT 50 people turned out to find out more about emergency planning in Dawlish.
A volunteer evening was organised by Dawlish Town Council with information about how to respond to emergencies such as flooding, gas leaks and other unexpected situations.
Organisers were surprised by the ‘fantastic turnout’ and had to move rooms to accommodate everyone.
At the end, more than 20 people expressed and interested in taking on a role.
The session featured informative presentations from the Environment Agency, Teignbridge Council, Devon County Council and Devon Communities Together.
A town council spokesman said: ‘Speakers highlighted how communities can respond to a range of emergency situations including flooding, snow, gas leaks and and other unexpected events.
‘Importantly, the evening demonstrated how local volunteers under the plan can provide valuable support within the community before the emergency services arrive.
‘It was great to see such strong community spirit and willingness to get involved.
‘Your support strengthens Dawlish and helps ensure we are better prepared for future challenges.
‘A sincere thank you to everyone who attended and generously gave their time, we hope you found the evening both informative and worthwhile.’
