Corinne-Risseeuw-Dove, of Reed Vale, Teignmouth, writes:

I have lived in Reed vale for the past three and a bit years and drive through Landscore Road to get on the Exeter road in the mornings.

Mostly schoolchildren walk down towards the college at that time.

Along most of Landscore Road, there is no place for pedestrians to walk safely. Most youngsters walk in the road.

It would be sensible for drivers to drive slowly and with care as the road has lots of blind bends and is narrow. I have noticed that especially this year the number of cars cutting through from the Exeter road towards Teignmouth and the Shaldon bridge has greatly increased.

It seems to me that the cars cutting through drive at great speed in the middle of the road and at times barely miss the toes of the youngsters, who have to jump and squeeze against the walls of the buildings.

Is this urgency and inconsideration to others worth a possible grave injury? Are we car drivers supposed to have authority and apply unnecessary dangerous risky driving? Are we car drivers supposed to be more sensible than youngsters?

Youngsters, who already walk close to the walls – ensuring they are out of the way – have no chance when confronted with cars doing 30, 40, 50mph, especially on blind bends.

Is there anything we can do together to avoid heartache, injury or worse?

It is with great daily concern that I am writing, with the hope that maybe we as drivers and the council could come to a solution together, enabling youngsters to walk safely.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
