A LOCAL Women's Institute (WI) group recently celebrated its ninth birthday.

Newton Abbot WI marked the milestone with a Beetle Drive, a British party game in which one draws a beetle in parts and, of course, homemade cakes of various kinds.

‘We were delighted to also welcome our advisor, and the Chair of the Devon Federation Of Women's Institutes’, said Newton Abbot WI press officer, Karen Jenks.

Elsewhere, the group spent an evening of late creating heart-shaped ornaments from pre-loved weddings dresses.

‘Our member Sue Hodges showed us, step by step, the use of a frame, wadding, material and netting’, Karen said.

‘We then had the fun of adding the embellishments to make it unique to each member.

‘We really did create some stunning hearts’, Karen added.
