THE lovely ladies of Newton Abbot WI recently tried their hand at bell ringing.

The group made the trip to St Mary's Church in Denbury for the workshop.

Churchwardens Steve Bassett, and Mike Bray got the group going with a simple hand bell tune.

The ladies enjoyed playing a number of Christmas Carol's too.

And then the moment arrived for four members to have a go at ringing the Church bells.

‘They absolutely nailed this, and we all enjoyed the sounds from the tower’ said Newton Abbot WI’s press officer Karen Jenks.

Having worked up an appetite, the WI ladies then enjoyed a savoury cheese scone lunch, followed by cakes courtesy of Irene and Pam.

‘We cannot thank Irene enough for asking us to go’ Karen said.

‘This experience is one of the many events Irene organises to raise money for repairs to the church’ Karen added.
