On land and on the water, there’s plenty of fun, festivity and fancy dress in Shaldon this Saturday.

The Shaldon Water Carnival opens on the beach at 10.30am, the fancy dress competition and procession starts on the Green from 12.30, and then all eyes will be on the estuary at 5pm for the decorated boat parade.

Evening entertainment takes place on The Green, with a disco followed by live music from The Embers. There’ll be an outdoor bar, and plenty of food and drink available.

During the day the many stalls on the beach and Marine Parade will be offering a range of locally made crafts and traditional sweets, along with hair braiding, face painting and a variety of games and competitions including chalk drawing and sand sculpture.

Children and adults will be showing off their fancy dress creations on The Green at lunchtime, followed by the parade through the village to the beach, accompanied by the Crooked Tempo Samba Band.

The decorated boats will be assembling off Shaldon Beach from 4.45pm for the waterborne parade, followed by the prizegiving and the drawing of the carnival raffle.

The family disco on The Green begins at 6.30pm, and The Embers take to the stage at 8.30pm.

The road will be closed from the Strand through Marine Parade all day, with closures around the Green from mid-afternoon until midnight.

Fore Street will also be closed for a short time around 1.45 to 2pm for the fancy dress parade to the beach.

A parking ban will be enforced on the London Inn side of The Green from the clock tower, including the area outside Potters Mooring.

The Teignmouth to Shaldon ferry will run until 9pm for the carnival, instead of stopping at the usual time of 4.40pm.
