Two people have been arrested on suspicion of endangering life following a flat fire in Teignmouth on Thursday night.

Emergency services were called to the three-storey block in Fraser Drive at 11.45pm.

The ground floor apartment was said to be partially damaged by the flames but smoke-logged.

Two fire crews from the town used breathing apparatus while they extinguished the fire. One man had to be escorted to safety.

Devon and cornwall Police confirmed that although no one was injured a 42-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were later arrested on suspicion of causing arson with intent to endanger life.

They were taken into custody at Torquay Police Station for interview.

Police have appealed for any witnesses. They particularly want to information about anyone seen running from the scene or sounds of disturbance between 10.30pm - midnight.
