FANS and collectors of public house memorabilia will have a field day tomorrow when the former King of Prussia in Bovey Tracey is opening its doors to sell-off a treasure trove of all things pub.
From 10am to 1pm the Bovey Paradiso Project is hosting the Past and Future event where there’ll be the chance to buy a bit of the historic hostelry which closed some years ago.
Anyone interested can take home a piece of the old King of Prussia – brewery-branded and plain (unused) glasses, light fittings, beer pumps, brass fittings, wall plaques and many other items, including pub furniture.
Money raised will go into the coffers of the community-supported Paradiso Project which is bringing a new arts centre to the heart of the town.
The centre, which includes a new 118-seat cinema and theatre, art gallery and studios and a cafe/bar, is scheduled to open in the summer.
Tony Pearce from the project said: ‘We have already begun the renovation work which is now revealing the Elizabethan fabric of the building. The long history of the pub will form the focus of an exhibition in a side room.
‘We have a detailed programme of works and are currently seeking tenders and we’re confident we will open in the summer.’
As well as items for sale next Saturday, potential cinema and theatre-goers can give their verdict on the seating. Tony said: ‘We have four types available for a “bum-test” to see which is the comfiest!
‘We’d also like people to give their views on what they would like to see in the new cinema and theatre, and express their views on the restaurant menu options.
‘Many people have said they have happy memories – some foggy – of the old pub.
‘Tomorrow you can take away a reminder of those past times as well as look forward to the new future of the King of Prussia.’
