Tom Wilson, of Bovey Tracey, writes:
The road from Bovey Tracey to Chudleigh Knighton has been closed for more than three months to enable major road modifications to be completed.
Many people in Bovey and Chudleigh Knighton have been seriously inconvenienced by this road closure, not least the small businesses that rely on passing trade on this road. So we were looking forward to the scheduled reopening on Sunday, March 27, at 17.30hrs.
It was a shock, therefore, to hear that the reopening was cancelled and the announcement came from the Highways Department just before the busy Easter weekend when it was not possible to get further information.
Only two weeks earlier Bovey Town Council had been assured by Bovis and the Highways Department that all was going to schedule. So this last minute delay seemed to be due to some serious lack of foresight on the part of the planners or lack of effort on the part of the developers.
During the three months of the road closure there had been many occasions when little or no work was taking place on the roadworks and it added insult to injury for Bovey and Chudleigh when we were told this period was to be extended.
It came as very welcome news therefore that the road was reopened on the morning of Wednesday, March, 30 with no further delay.
Thank you to all those who made the extra effort to lift this siege of Bovey Tracey.
