TEIGNMOUTH wrote themselves into the record books by becoming the first team to win Devon One in a 22-game season without dropping a point.

Other teams have remained unbeaten from start to finish, but no one has managed it since the season was extended from 18 to 22 games ten years ago.

All in all it is a fantastic achievement by the Teigns, who are heading back to the Cornwall and Devon Division after a season in the next league down.

'It's something we can enjoy for the next few weeks, then we have to knuckle down to the task of strengthening the side for next season,' said director of rugby Bob Farrell.

One of the reasons for Teignmouth's success has been the prolific try-scoring form of young wingman Will Sowden, who took his league and cup tally to 35 with one more against St Columba before going off injured.

Teigns trailed briefly to a Ben Green penalty, but were ahead after 15 minutes thanks to two of the same from Ivan Pitman.

Near half time Teignmouth pulled off the same move twice with centre Chris Tidman dashing in for two tries and a 16-3 lead.

Sowden scored first in the second half before leaving the field.

Lock Aaron Kelly went over as did Sowden's replacement, Lewis Beare.

Pitman added the conversion and potting his fourth after prop Paul Jelley capped a man-of-the-match performance with a try.
