TEIGNMOUTH Town Council has objected to revised plans for a development of 75 new homes on the eastern edge of the town, raising concerns about infrastructure, over-development and flooding.

The plans, for land north of New Road, were originally submitted to Teignbridge Council seeking permission for 81 dwellings.

A revised application - reference 24/01892/MAJ - has now been submitted, reducing the number of homes to 75.

The proposals comprise 50 houses and 25 apartments, with a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom properties.

The development would also include open space, landscaping and associated site infrastructure.

According to the planning statement submitted with the application, the homes would be built ‘entirely for affordable housing purposes’, with a mix of properties for social rent and shared ownership.

More than 30 objections have been lodged against the proposals, including one from Teignmouth Town Council.

The town council’s planning committee said it had concerns about infrastructure, over-development and flooding.

At its meeting, the committee resolved to recommend refusal of the application, with the proposal to refuse the plans carried unanimously.

The council also said that, should the development be approved, it would want the infrastructure levy generated by the scheme to be ring-fenced for use in Teignmouth.

The objections come as the revised proposals are considered by planning officers as part of the overall planning process.
