SOUTH Devon Singers will open the fourth Teignmouth Classical Music Festival with an evening of words and music, drawing ‘unashamedly’ on Joan Littlewood’s production of Not Such A Lovely War.

‘In each of the four festivals which fall within the 100th anniversary period of the first world war, I wanted to include at least some items focusing on experiences of war more generally. We will be singing some very moving words to beautiful music,’ explained festival director and choir member, Rachael Shearmur.

The concert on Friday, March 4, at 7.30pm at St Michael’s Church, Teignmouth, draws on a number of David Haines’ songs, written as far apart as 1988 and 2016.
