NEW flats are on the cards in Teignmouth town centre as planners consider a proposal for Regent Street.

Submitted by Powderham Properties, the application - reference 26/00430/FUL - is seeking permission to replace the shopfront at 11 Regent Street and convert the upper floors into four, two-bedroom flats, which would include a new, three-storey rear extension.

Teignbridge Council are due to make a decision on the application by June 8.

11 Regent Street is a three-storey mid-19th century terraced building forming part of the established commercial frontage of the street.

The ground floor accommodates two commercial units, with the upper floors historically being residential accommodation.

The planning statement for 26/00430/FUL says that the proposed development ‘optimises use of a sustainable town centre site’, ‘delivers policy-compliant housing’ and ‘supports town centre vitality and regeneration.
