Tricorn hats, eye patches and bandanas will be the dress code in Teignmouth on Saturday, July 4 for Pirate Takeover day.
The town council has organised a programme of pirate-themed events and live entertainment, and is inviting residents and visitors to get into the swashbuckling spirit.
The main programme begins in mid-afternoon, but keen buccanneers can start the day with a costumed park run along the promenade at 9am.
Then at 3pm, the Wrecked Again shanty band will lead a parade from the Lighthouse at The Point car park to the Den, where the afternoon’s entertainment will be taking place. Anyone ‘who looks like a pirate’ is welcome to join the parade.
Wrecked Again will start the live music with a set of rousing sea shanties, and afterwards, Captain Barnacles will take to the stage for a pantomime suitable for children and families, starting at 3.45pm.

That will be followed at 4pm by more seafaring music from the Out of Tunas, before a special pirate show ‘full of comedy and adventure’ by the Teignmouth Players, starting at 5.15pm.

The music continues at 6pm with Piratitude, who will be performing shanties and festival favourites, followed by Queen Anne’s Revenge at 7.15pm.
At the end of the entertainment programme, at 8pm, revellers can navigate their way around the pubs on the Captain’s Ale Trail.
