TEIGNMOUTH Fire Station is appealing for new on-call firefighters to join its dedicated team.

The station is currently protected by 17 on-call firefighters who respond to emergencies day and night.

Historically, the team was larger, allowing for more consistent fire cover, but recruiting and retaining enough firefighters is becoming ‘increasingly challenging’, the fire station has said.

Crews say there is still strong interest from the public, with many people visiting the station, submitting applications and making enquiries about joining.

However, not all applicants meet the eligibility criteria required for the role.

To be considered, candidates must live or work within five minutes of Teignmouth Fire Station and be able to offer daytime availability, with weekend cover particularly valuable.

Successful recruits will receive full training and become part of a close-knit team, gaining valuable skills while playing a vital role in protecting Teignmouth and surrounding communities.
