POLICE are reminding people to thoroughly check their cash following reports of fake bank notes in circulation.

Devon and Cornwall Police received reports that there could be fake £20 notes circulating in the area.

As such, police are reminding residents to thoroughly examine their notes by checking for inconsistencies in the holographic images and other security features.

Failing that, comparing a suspected fake note with a genuine note is the next port of call.

‘If you have any doubt, compare the suspect note with a genuine one you know to be real’ a spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said.

‘If you suspect a note is counterfeit, and you know who gave it to you, inform the police immediately’ the spokesperson added.
