A QUICK-thinking fire crew came to the rescue of a dog after it became trapped in a garden door during an unusual incident in Bovey Tracey.

The Bovey Tracey crew were called out on Friday, July 3, after the curious canine found itself wedged between a door and a wall.

Using specialist small tools, firefighters were able to carefully release the dog and reunite it safely with its owners.

Following its rescue, the dog was taken to a local vet for a precautionary check to ensure it had not suffered any injuries.

The animal rescue was one of several call-outs attended by Bovey Tracey Fire Station over the weekend.

Later on Friday, the crew were called to a grassland fire in the Liverton area, where they quickly brought the blaze under control using hose reel jets and fire beaters.

The crew was then sent to standby duties at Newton Abbot Fire Station while other teams responded to a large fire near the M5.

And in the early hours of Monday morning (July 6) the crew were called to a single-vehicle collision on Bovey Straights following reports of a person trapped inside the vehicle.

Upon arrival, all occupants had managed to get clear, and the crew made the scene safe before leaving it in the hands of emergency colleagues.
