A 'ONCE in a generational opportunity' to replace Teignmouth's ageing Carlton Theatre has been given the go-ahead, although the final look of the new building has yet to be agreed.

On Monday, members of Teignbridge Council planning committee voted unanimously to grant permission for the scheme in principle.

Not everyone has welcomed the modern boxy-looking building seen so far in the artist's impressions, so tweaks will be made and the choice of materials considered.

The meeting at Forde House, Newton Abbot, was addressed by mayor Cllr June Green, who described Teignmouth as 'a town that has turned the corner'.
