John Kay, of Grange Drive, Teignmouth, writes:

At a time when the nation's MPs are being criticised, it is good to report a good deed by our own MP, Mr Richard Younger-Ross.

He is president of the Shaldon Sailing Club, where my 17-year-old son is a committee member.

When Richard heard that he was trying to become a sailing instructor, as part of his extended A-level project at school, he kindly offered to contribute £50 towards the cost of the course.

When my son subsequently approached Richard, at the recent club award ceremony to thank him, Richard enquired how the course and fundraising was going. My son replied that he had passed three parts of the course and had one small part to complete in order to obtain his instructor's certificate. He had raised £650 but needed a further £20 to complete the course. Richard's wife opened her purse and gave my son a £20 note.

So thank you Richard and your good lady, together with Teignbridge Council; Shaldon Sailing Club now has another RYA qualified sailing instructor to help teach the youngsters of the area how to sail.
