A NATIONAL campaign to make Christmas cooking less stressful over the festive break is being supported by Teignbridge Council.

The authority is highlighting the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) Freezer Fairy initiative to help people plan their meals and work out what and when to ‘cook, freeze and defrost.’

The agency reckons much stress and food waste can be avoided by making better use of the freezer and planning ahead.

Cllr Sylvia Russell, the council’s executive member for health and wellbeing, said: ‘We’re happy to be supporting the Freezer Fairy campaign and encouraging people to cut down on the amount of food they waste.

‘There are lots of ways to cut down, and it can be as simple as checking use-by dates before buying, freezing excess food in fridges, or simply buying less in the first place.

‘We’re encouraging everyone to join us in doing their bit to cook, freeze and defrost where possible.’
