IN Bloom judges have been doing the rounds in Bovey Tracey.

Having previously won silver in 2016 and gold in 2017 and coveted silver gilt last year the council has high hopeds for 2019.

The judging team met Bovey Tracey mayor Cllr George Gribble and representatives from Plastic Free Bovey and Bovey Flags before taking in a tour of the town.

Along the way they popped in to meet young gardeners at Bovey Tracey Primary School gardening club and probably offer a few tips, and volunteers at the town’s information centre.

Bovey had received a spruce-up from members of Brimley WI, who did a late night litter-pick to ensure all was spick and span. Members had also added some colour with their newly-planted beds at the Co-op car park. Parke WI also helped with their beds at the Methodist church.

Town clerk Mark Wells said: ‘The judges also look at the environmental aspect of the town and took in the recycling facilities and heard about our plastic-free status.’

After touring the main street with its planted troughs and hanging baskets, the judges were treated to lunch provided by Julia Mooney, chairman of Bovey Tracey Garden Club.

They will reveal their verdict later in the year.
