Dorothy Dawson, of Belgrave Terrace, Teignmouth, writes:

The Environment Agency has just announced that individuals should ‘limit their water usage to 140 litres per day’.

We have just had a bill for £146 for 16,000 litres over 90 days, which we can just about manage to pay. For three people, this works out at about 60 litres per day each. To achieve this we 1) only flush the toilets when really necessary; 2) only wash the car when it has rained; 3) skimp on baths and 4) generally don’t wash and clean nearly as much as we would like.

Sixty litres is less than half of 140 litres (3/7 would be closer). Who are these people who can afford £320 a quarter for their water? Or are SWW charging more than anyone else?
