A WOMAN from Kingskerswell who has spent more than four years helping people in Ukraine has been awarded with a top honour from the Rotary Club.

Sandra Jones, of Kingskerswell Action Group, has worked tirelessly since the Russian invasion of Ukraine to provide humanitarian aid.

She has collected, raised funds and organised supplies via the Rotary Club of Tormohun.

These have been sent on a convoy to reach the Ukrainian border and from there to be handed out to people in the war torn country.

In recognition of her efforts, she received Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellowship, the highest award, named after the founder of Rotary International.

A spokesman for the Rotary Club of Tormohun said: ‘We estimate that Sandra, conservatively estimating, has personally packed, labelled and listed, more than 3,000 boxes and used 13,000 feet of sticky tape in the process.

‘In addition she has sold books, bibles, bikes, and jigsaws in the name of Rotary Club of Tormohun, with all the money raised used to purchase baby food, sanitary products and medical items for onward transmission to Ukraine.

‘The people of Kingskerswell and in particular her husband Roger, who was awarded Honorary Membership of not only our club but Rotary worldwide, have been outstanding in organising concerts and shows as fund raising and donating clothing, personal hygiene products, over the counter medicines, dried and tinned foods, children’s books and educational items.

‘They are an example to us all.’

Roger thanked the club for its part in the sending of aid and in particular the work ethic of Rotarians Alan White and Alan Dommett, both long serving and committed members of the club.
