TAKE care on the roads this morning as a Yellow Warning of heavy rain and strong winds is in force until lunch time today, Saturday, and a number of flood warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency.

Teignbridge and the rest of Devon took a battering from the rain and winds overnight.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for the River Teign (Lower) this morning from Chudleigh to Kingsteignton.

Another flood warning is in place for the River Dart from Buckfastleigh to Totnes, including Staverton/

The Environment Agency warns: ‘Flooding is expected in these areas.

‘This means properties are at risk of flooding.  Please take action to protect yourself and your property and monitor local weather and river conditions.

‘Avoid contact with, walking or driving through flood water. Consider activating any property flood protection products you may have.

‘The Environment Agency Flood Warning System has issued this message based on rising river or tidal levels.  We are temporarily automating our messages due to industrial action.

‘On top of the recent rain, impacts are likely to be most significant in catchments fed by higher ground such as Exmoor and Dartmoor, but could be more widespread.

‘This could lead to road and property flooding, including in areas affected by the more recent flooding.

‘The Environment Agency is monitoring flood levels, issuing warnings, operating flood gates and barriers at locations across the Area and ensuring debris screens are clear from blockages to ensure communities are better protected.

‘We advise people to stay away from swollen rivers and urge people not to drive through flood water as just 30cm of flowing water is enough to move your car.

‘We encourage people to check their flood risk, sign up for free flood warnings at https://www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings and keep up to date with the latest situation at  https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/.
