A FLOOD alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the River Teign area from tonight and into tomorrow.

The agency says flooding is possible for the rivers Teign, Bovey and Lemon and coastal streams from Babbacombe to Kenton as high river levels are forecast overnight.

Flooding is possible tomorrow, October 23, as heavy rain is expected from this evening into Thursday morning.

Forecast levels may cause flooding to low lying land and roads close to the rivers from around 2am on Thursday.

The main areas of concern are Newton Abbot, Kingsteignton, Teignmouth, Shaldon, Bovey Tracey, Kingskerswell, Dawlish and Dawlish Warren.

A spokesman said: ‘We expect the rivers to remain high throughout Thursday though no flooding to properties is currently forecast.

‘We are monitoring rainfall and river levels.

‘Avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.’
