THIS picture of a Hairy Crab has been taken by Mike Puleston, a marine naturalist and a member of the Shores of South Devon group.
Mike says: ‘Here is one I photographed at The Ness Shaldon (below the Ness Hotel).
‘So this is a Hairy Crab (Pilumnus hirtellus) because it is hairy which traps sediment to help camouflage it for protection.
‘They are fairly common in the South West, but are fairly small, this one about 15mm across the carapace (shell) and are usually found under stones.’
