TEACHING staff at Dawlish College, Newton Abbot College, and Teignmouth Community School say they are ‘incredibly proud’ of Year 11 students who collected their GCSE and Level 2 BTEC results.
At Dawlish College, one student who came to the town from Ukraine with limited English, achieved a Grade 9 in Russian, Grade 8s in Maths and Physics, a string of Grades 5 and 6, plus Level 2 Distinction in Creative iMedia.
Headteacher of Dawlish College, Sam Banks, said: ‘Today is a celebration of the hard work, resilience and determination shown by this year group, and I wish them every success as they move on to their next steps.’
As a year group, Newton Abbot College students have been awarded a record number of Distinction* and Grade 9s across all subjects.
Amy Grashoff, Headteacher, said: ‘I am so unbelievably proud of year 11 and their results.
‘What they have achieved is the outcome of five years of working hard, never giving up, making the most of the support available to them and putting in that extra effort when it has really counted.
‘We have seen increases in all headline figures and across all subjects and are delighted with the progress the year group have made and their achievements.’
At Teignmouth Community School, head teacher Rachel Wickham, said: ‘GCSEs are a significant challenge, and each of our students has worked incredibly hard to reach this point. We will watch their future journeys with great pride.’
The schools are part of Ivy Education Trust and its CEO Katy Quinn emphasised the results being the culmination of a wide team effort over many years.
She said: ‘The students themselves have done so well, and I hope they are very proud of their results today – but they should be even more proud of their hard work and efforts over many years.
‘We care about them all deeply, and whatever their next steps we wish them all a very happy and successful future.’
