KIND-HEARTED pupils from one Newton Abbot school descended on the town’s Asda store to help shoppers pack their bags.

The youngsters from Wolborough Primary School decided to mark its ‘Kindness Day’ by loading groceries into customers’ bags without asking for donations.

Wolborough’s Jenny Lovick said: ‘Everyone was very grateful for the children’s help and we had lots of comments about how polite and helpful the children were.

‘One older gentleman said how nice it was to be able to chat to the children as his age group don’t always have much contact with young people.’

She added: ‘Lots of people insisted on giving us money so we donated it to the Tickled Pink campaign which Asda collects for.

‘The children were also rewarded for their kindness as some people gave them cakes and sweets to share with their classmates.’

Other students from the school collected food and towels as well as cat and dog food for the Animals in Distress centre in Ipplepen.

Previous Kindness Days have seen children dishing out free cups of tea in the town and hand out get well cards at Newton Abbot Hospital.

Ms Lovick said the students enjoyed their morning at Asda and the school will be looking at collaborating with Asda and the community in the future.
