MOTORISTS in Dawlish are poised for more misery as work to upgrade the gas network moves onto phase two.
The project is ‘progressing well’, according to Wales & West Utilities.
But the next phase will involve a month of disruption as multi-way traffic lights will needed.
Motorists have already endured months of lengthy queues as work was taking place in the Exeter Road area with complaints about the use of temporary traffic lights.
Now, Wales and West says as part of the next section of the project it has been agreed with Devon County Council that between June 8 and July 10 multiway signals will be in use on the junctions of Teignmouth Road, Coronation Avenue, Teignmouth Hill and West Cliff Road.
Motorists are advised to allow sufficient travel time.
Wales & West Utilities says it continues to ‘work closely’ with Devon County Council to plan the project, and the work is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area.
Wales & West Utilities' Roxanne Whittaker is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said: ‘We are committed to keep the local community updated of our progress as we work to upgrade our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve across the area.
‘We’ll continue to work closely with the local authority, and commit to keep communities informed as projects are planned and delivered.
‘We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day.
‘We’d like to thank the local community and road users for their ongoing patience as our engineers work to upgrade the pipes in the area.
‘While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.’
