POLICE are seeking witnesses after a infant child was bitten by a dog while at a Kingsteignton play park.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 23, between 8.30am and 9am at the play park on Priscott Way.

A loose dog entered the play area, unaccompanied by an owner and bit an infant child causing significant injury, removing the child’s fingertip and causing severe distress to mother and child.

The dog has then left the park in an unconfirmed direction.

The dog is described as being of medium size and dark in colour, though no breed has been identified.

A spokesperson for the Newton Abbot Neighbourhood Team said: ‘It is believed that the owner of the dog resides locally and possibly unaware of the incident.

‘Officers are appealing for information to identify the owner of the dog.

‘House to house enquiries and CCTV enquiries are currently ongoing.
