ADULT learners across Devon, including Newton Abbot, were among those celebrating GCSE results day.

Learn Devon, Devon County Council’s adult education service, welcomed and congratulated learners collecting their results from its centres on Thursday, August 21.

Learn Devon offers free GCSE English and Maths qualifications, with courses starting in September and in January.

Among those adult learners celebrating was Maria Kleckowski-Tanner in Newton Abbot, who got a five in Maths.

‘I became obsessed with Maths and wished now that I had done the higher-level paper’, Maria said.

‘Cheryl was a lovely tutor’.

Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Cabinet Member for Rural Affairs, said: ‘Well done to all of the Learn Devon learners who have gained their GCSEs today [Thursday, August 21].

‘It takes a lot of hard work and commitment, so it’s a proud moment and great achievement, no matter what stage in your life.

‘It is never too late to study and Learn Devon has a wide range of courses available.

‘Whether you’re looking to gain a qualification or develop new skills, it’s worth exploring what they have to offer’.

In Tavistock, Natalia Mokrileva passed both GCSE English and Maths, achieving a six for English and a seven for Maths.

‘I had an amazing experience with Learn Devon, especially with my tutor Sara’, said Natalia.

‘She made studying feel individual even though I was part of a group.

‘I would recommend everybody who wants to go with Learn Devon to do so’, added Natalia.

Learn Devon has over 100 courses listed on its website covering a range of subject areas including Digital Skills & IT, English, Maths, English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), and Skills & Development.
