Tony Brown, of Horse Lane, Shaldon, writes:
The ugly building proposed as the replacement for the Carlton Theatre appears to have been designed by a trainee architect who has never been to the resort, still has fond memories of Lego blocks and was instructed to keep prices down to the minimum possible.
The problem with proposals such as this is that if they are not rejected outright from the outset they have a habit of becoming the promoter's building of choice to which only minor design details will be considered as a sop to protesters.
i hope the full Teignmouth council will be actively involved in monitoring every stage of this application and will make it quite clear to Teignbridge that it needs to start again completely from scratch; and next time it should use a qualified architect who actually takes the trouble to visit the town and who has a brief to design a theatre – and not an aircraft terminal – on one of Britain's finest sea fronts .MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
