DISCUSSIONS between Devon County Council (DCC) and the contractor set to carry out utility work on Ashburton Road next month are ongoing as the two parties explore how to minimise the impact of the work.
Power On Water confirmed it will be carrying out ‘essential utility works’ on the A383 from November after being contacted by the Mid-Devon Advertiser.
The work, which is planned from November 3 to April 10, 2026, involves the excavation of the footway and carriageway between the Barton Drive junction and the new site entrance at Howton Lane to install a new 315mm water main.
Crucially, the work will see multi-way, temporary traffic signals put in place; the A383 is signposted as the official diversion for the A382 closure.
A spokesperson for Devon County Council said: ‘We are still in discussions with the utility contractor on how to minimise the impact of proposals to carry out work on the A383 to deliver strategic housing development in the area’.
