THE Union flag is being flown at half-mast above Teignbridge Council’s headquarters at Forde House in Newton Abbot today to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
Cllr Richard Keeling, Leader of Teignbridge District Council, said: ‘On this 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, we come together to remember the bravery and resilience of those who served on the front lines and those who supported the war effort at home.
'As we commemorate this historic milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to peace, unity, and the values they fought for.
‘The significant sacrifices that were made should never be forgotten, and this anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate their lives and the peace and freedom they secured for all of us.’
