RESIDENTS and visitors of Buckfastleigh are being invited to join organisers on the local village green for another fruitful, family afternoon.
Yes, it’s that time of year, and organisers at the Orchard Millennium Green are calling all patrons to participate in the return of the Green’s Annual Apple Day at 2pm on Sunday, October 30..
Visitors will be treated to a variety of attractions as ever, including a range of community stalls, refreshments and of course, the chance to make some freshly pressed juices.
The event comes off the back of previous successes for the Green this year, and organisers are keen to offer more activities for the community in the same spirit.
Speaking on behalf of the Trust, chairman Huw Cox said: ‘After an enforced break due to the COVID pandemic, we were thrilled to bring back a very successful Fun Day at the end of the June half term holiday, and are now very excited to bring the this event as a nice way to round off the autumn break.
‘We will have an apple press on site for the day and we encourage all ages to bring their own apples, or pick some from the orchard and have a go at making your own refreshing juices.
Huw thanked Ben Catrall for his assistance and the loan of the equipment.
Previous Apple Days have proven to be a massive success pre-COVID and have attracted patrons of a variety of ages, have included visits from notable dignitaries including the then mayor Cllr Andy Stokes, as well as producing up to an estimated 65 gallons of delicious juices.
Huw added: ‘As a committee, we are delighted, once again, to be bringing back more activities and events for the benefit of the local community including the local Tea of the Green afternoons.
‘t is great to see this local community space being used by a variety of groups and we very much look forward to bringing our guests more events in the near future.’
The Orchard Millennium Green is humble, community space.
It is managed by a board of Trustees who are committed to making this valuable, community space a key destination for local community events and are keen to invite local organisations to participate in the success of the Green and to stage events for the benefit of the local community.
This includes the organisation of the Buckfastleigh Annual Fun Day and Duck Race, the proceeds of which, help to fund the upkeep and insurance of the green.
